Day spent in the reserve.
Buffalo Springs Game Reserve is a hidden gem in Kenya's Northern Frontier District, known for its rugged beauty and diverse wildlife. Adjacent to the more famous Samburu National Reserve, Buffalo Springs offers a quieter, yet equally captivating safari experience.

Named after an oasis with clear, freshwater springs, the reserve is characterized by its arid, semi-desert landscape, dotted with acacia trees and scrubland. Despite the harsh environment, Buffalo Springs is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, Grevy’s zebras, and the unique reticulated giraffe. The reserve is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 350 species recorded, including the Somali ostrich and vulturine guineafowl.

One of the highlights of Buffalo Springs is the chance to see the "Samburu Special Five," a group of species uniquely adapted to the arid conditions of the region: the Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and gerenuk.

The reserve's remote location and less crowded environment make it ideal for those seeking a more intimate and off-the-beaten-path safari experience, where you can truly immerse yourself in the wild, away from the hustle and bustle of more popular tourist destinations.
